Mono Monday: Week 186 .......
Distant .... memories.
When I first read the theme for this week's MM I wasn't sure of what I wanted to blip .... there are so many possibilities.
But then I remembered ....
A couple of weeks ago I got it in my head to do a Google Map search of the first place that R and I lived after getting married ... Whitney Point, New York.
As many of you probably know you can use Google Maps to virtually "walk" the streets. This allows you to actually see the streets and buildings. So I did this with Whitney Point .... "walking" down our old street.
Wasn't I surprised when I got to the location of what should have been the first house we even lived in as a married couple only to find it .... gone!!! Yes, the house is now a distant memory!!! We had gone to Whitney Point a few years ago when we were visiting family in New York and the house was still there. However, it was boarded up at that time. Such a sad sight for us to see. The house was an old Victorian built in 1900 ... so I guess it just lived out its usefulness.
We contacted a local real estate agent and he told us that the county purchased the home a couple of years ago and tore it down!! How sad!
As for the Rickel Home Centers truck in my picture .....
A lot of you will not even know that this company existed but Richard worked for them for many years. In fact, Rickel's was the reason we moved to Pennsylvania. Quite a few years ago now the company had to file for bankrupcy and ceased to exist!
Making Rickel Home Centers yet another distant memory!
Not yet a distant memory is the hummingbird in my extra! Although, he will soon be leaving on his journey south .... where he will fly great distances to reach his winter home.
I have caught up on my weekend blips .... starting with Silly Saturday.
