Wind Bags
Back in June 2016, I bliped the wall painting over the main entrance to this building, the former priests house and from 1929 the "Wine Inn". I think it was struggling as a restaurant when we moved here in 2002 and suspect it closed shortly afterwards.
Never quite understood why as it is directly at the foot of the steps leading up to the Basilica and ought to do a roaring trade.
Sometime this year there were suddenly building fences around it and then found out a cafe named "Allgäuer Windbeutel Paradies" situated 100m up the road was to move in. People seem to love or hate the place or better said the food. I would normally be a sucker for a Windbeutel (lit. Wind Bag) but better known to most as Puff Creams, Profiteroles or Chou a la Creme. The location of the old cafe was never on my path.
However now must try it out one day. At worst they have Allgäuer Buble Beer as shown by the umbrellas. In Bavaria everything tastes good with beer. They say there are several Puff Cream restaurants in Bavaria but claim they have the biggest selection.
Will have to ask MrsB's opinion. She normally has the latest news on such matters.
Windbeutel is also the word used colloquially for someone who is good for nothing - full of air.
