Kinda Canal

Today the weather changed again and we had another gloriously sunny day. We made the most of it by going on a fun outing involving a walk and a picnic fika with ice-cream! This was another repeat of one of my favourite outings from last year. (See that blip here)

We walked along a section of the Kinda canal, south of the city. Having parked at one set of locks (Hamra - 2 locks), we walked along the canal to the next set of locks. The picture is of the top set of 4 locks, Hovetorp, rising 15.8 meters, taken when we just happened to pass 3 serious hikers! This is also on the route of the Östgötaleden long distance trail, Sweden's longest at 1200 kms.

Thankfully we only planned to do a TINY part of the trail! At the top of the Hovetorp locks we enjoyed a picnic fika with a flask of coffee and small cakes bought yesterday at the sourdough bakery. But the MAIN treat for today's outing was the ice-cream hut located near the locks. The hut is unmanned, but it has a fridge-freezer full of ice creams and cold drinks as well as a kettle and coffee/tea for those who have not brought their own flask. Money can be left in a small box. Brilliant concept!

We missed Dolly today but we enjoyed our fika while remembering our visit there last year. There is a small marina at the top of the locks so we looked at boats briefly before walking back to the car. On the way back we looked for and found several geocaches - old ones for Elisabet and Alice, but new for me.

All in all, a beautiful day with a simple but fun and delicious outing. See extra photo for a few more pictures.
