This is one...
...of my most favourite places, The Bullers of Buchan, between Peterhead and Cruden Bay.
We travelled to Aberdeenshire today to the funeral of a very old family friend. My childhood family holidays were spent with Aunty May and Uncle Willie on their farm at Fishy. I loved those holidays so much. I loved to help Uncle Willie on the farm and would rise early to go out with him to feed the calves or the lambs. I'd sit with him in the tractor as he ploughed. An enduring memory is being in the tractor, ploughing and Captain Sensible playing on the radio singing "Happy Talk". I'm so grateful for the experiences that holidaying at the farm gave me and for the patience and kindness of Uncle Willie and Aunty May.
On the journey home we went via Peterhead for a look at the harbour because I wouldn't be my Father's daughter if I didn't do that. I'd spend my mornings helping Uncle Willie and in the afternoon Mum, Dad, Gill and I would take wee trips to places around the area. In those days the rigs came into Peterhead for refurb and Dad would spend hours sitting at the harbour just watching what was going on, Mum would knit and Gill and I would scramble about the rocks or go to the RNLI station:-)
Other haunts on this section of the journey would be the Bullers and Slaines Castle. We stopped in at both of these places. I really love the Bullers on a stormy day. There is a wee house for sale too...I always fancied a house there...Mr R said no:-(
Grateful for happy memories of family holidays past and for beautiful places like the Bullers of Buchan.
