TRADE BOOST

Giant container ships like the Maltese registered Tahima are a familiar sight on the dockland skyline in the port of Southampton.
They are also a crucial part of the nation’s economy, bringing in all manner of consumer and industrial goods from Far East overseas markets, as well as carrying Britain’s exports overseas in the opposite direction.
She arrived earlier today at the Southampton deep water container berth from the Moroccan port Tangier as her last port of call from Singapore and is scheduled to sail for her next port, Antwerp in two days’ time.

For the technically minded she is 400 metres in length and 59m in width with a gross tonnage of 193,300 tons.
