The Hopetoun Monument

The Hopetoun Monument which stands in the Garleton Hills was erected in 1824. It was built in memory of John Hope, the 4th Earl of Hopetoun. The inscription on  the foundation stone reads: 'This monument was erected in memory of the Great and Good John, Fourth Earl of Hopetoun by his affectionate and grateful tenantry.'
Inside, there is a dark and winding staircase of 132 steps which leads to a viewing gallery at the top. It's a while since I've been up but one day I will climb it again and take a picture of the view - watch this space!
