MASTER MARKER

The mark of a Mason is a monogram, symbol, or some other arbitrary figure chiselled by a mason on the surface of a stone for the purpose of identifying his own work and distinguishing it from that of other workmen.

His promise - "This is where I stand, this is my work. I guarantee its quality, and am proud of the workmanship it shows."

Many designs follow 'branch' and 'double axe' patterns, but this one is almost a complete story. Found it above a church door and carved into the sandstone, it seems to show some of the tools used during the building, a cross and a ladder. Then the rain came !
