Tiptoeing
This is Reg's first star billing this year, he's only made one other appearance - as an Extra. Whoever said tortoises are slow? He positively scuttles across the garden if he thinks there's a chance of a strawberry or tomato. Wifie says he is happier and less grumpy this year, I'm not sure how she can tell. He is more sociable though, he usually appears if I'm in the garden to check what's going on, and to see if I'm bearing gifts.
I'm impressed by his strength, proportionately he has a lot of weight to carry on his toes ballerina-like. Gus remains very wary of him, he doesn't have any teeth but he can give quite a peck with his horny beak. Another few weeks and he will be preparing for hibernation, he already is in the sense that he has a huge appetite and has clearly grown in stature this season. This year I shall hopefully be at home to spot where he digs himself in, so that we can make sure he is well insulated over the winter.
