First day of holiday
Not how we expected the day to go.
May update later.
So, 24 hours later, by way of an update. We left home heading for an overnight stop at Newton Aycliffe. We wanted to go to the RHS gardens at Harlow Carr so headed straight up the A1. About 3pm driving along with other heavy traffic, we had no choice but to drive over a piece of metal laying in the carriageway. Fairly loud bang but nothing untoward. Due to come off at next junction. Thank goodness. On leaving motorway my dear calm husband said the brakes felt odd. Slowed down, got off the slip road, round the corner and actually the brakes were not working. Managed to stop without too much dramatics and we now know both brake fluid pipes had been severed. RAC called but classed as rtc/insurance will recover car but not us/four hours later hire car collected from Leeds airport/our car somewhere in Harrogate. Hundreds of phonecalls and not the best start to our trip. Inconvenient but thankfully no injuries. Got to our hotel just in time for last orders of food!
