Back and Forth thru time

Don't Follow

Evening all,

normally this time of year, the clan Mcnasty are heading further north for their annual Northumbrian pilgrimage.

Following complaints from the management about repeat visits to the area we have torn up the plan and headed south instead.

We find ourselves in a rural idyll,  a remote, flat, isolated place, where small homesteads appear and vanish again in the blink of a rear view mirror,
huge churches receive worship from tiny homesteads of 2 or 3 houses, the silence is all encompassing and even the birds feel reluctant to give voice to song in fear of shattering the surface tension of tranquillity.

However, we have realised that there is a fault in our stars, we are used to long, unbroken, unpopulated expanses of beach, the type where you can walk for miles and see not a soul.

This does not exist in Norfolk, not even on the coast where we are.

The beaches are policed by wetlands which are accessible to all in fear of being sucked down into the depths of oblivion, the ones which you can get to are either shale/shingle/ pebble affairs which seem to promote haemorrhoids in all but the tightest of anal sphincter brigade, or a couple of sandy ones which on current examination seem to be packed tighter than sardines in a tin .

Don't misunderstand, it is a beautiful area, gorgeous in fact, but I think we have realised we like a bit of beach with our holiday.

next year we go north......  (or possibly next week)

night all
