Portrait Gallery

Our last morning in London today. The journey was something of a nightmare but we eventually made it in to the city. We decided to get off at Waterloo so we could walk in over the bridge. Katie liked being able to see all her favourite sights, the Shard, Big Ben, the Eye, St Pauls....

We were heading in to do a trail of theatreland. We had fun seeing most of the theatres on our tour and learning some interesting facts. The final stop took us to the Henry Irving statue which is outside the National Portrait Gallery. Katie wanted to go inside. We picked up some brilliant children's activities (which we put in the bag to take on the train). We didn't have very long so chose to go to the modern portraits, the Victorian portraits and the Century of Photography exhibition. We had a really happy time exploring. She liked recognising several people and wrote down artists and some of their subjects she wants to look up more about later.

After a happy time there, we walked to Leicester Square tube. She chose the biggest ever doughnut with sprinkles as "I'm sad about leaving" treat. We arrived at Kings Cross with time to go over to Regents Canal and play in the water fountains outside the Granary. London's Swan Song to Katie. A glorious way to end the trip.

All that and we were still on a train home by 2pm.....
