"Stolen Angels" Community Art Exhibit
Teressa Raiford, who founded Don't Shoot Portland, has been working with Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA), empowering members of her community to create signs, posters, and memorials to loved ones and family members killed by police and white supremacists. For the past two weeks a local art gallery has hosted a show of their work. Stacks of markers are available in the gallery so that visitors can write notes on the posters and signs, embellishing and personalizing them. Tomorrow is the last day of the show, and tonight Teressa hosted a party in the gallery for Alyssa, a proud Puerto Rican Transwoman activist who worked with Teressa for three years before returning to her home to Brooklyn. Alyssa is in town this week as a consultant to a tenants' rights group.
I am intensely involved these days and unable to comment. I hope to return before long, and I thank those who are kindly leaving comments and other sprinklings, even though I can't reciprocate.
