Now a fully paid up member of the iPhone club. A bright spot on a torrential rain and headache filled day.

Managed to cut successfully down the free sim I'd got for practising on into nano sim format. Not going to risk it with my actual sim just yet though, going to spend up the credit on it first, so it could be a while before iPhone is actually used as a phone!
