Back to the hide
The walk is good for me and as I have a quiet and enjoyable day in prospect, I decided to head for Croxall Lakes and the farthest bird hide again.
I passed a dead swan on my way and I phoned Staffordshire Wildlife Trust as it's another of our reserves. My boss told me that we're obliged to report any wildfowl deaths to DEFRA and she did that. I didn't know it was an obligation. I'm not very good at answering further questions but I could say there weren't lots of feathers and it wasn't decomposing....
The weather was changeable and we lost the light from time to time. It was so peaceful. The kingfisher did put in appearance and sat for about a minute on the same log before heading off in the direction of the bigger lake.
My blip is the view from the hide - just a perfect spot to sit quietly and enjoy the natural world (only interrupted occasionally by extra-long freight trains thundering by.
