Temppeliaukio Church

I spent this Friday in Helsinki. I traveled there by train with hubby, he went to Helsinki -Tallinna sailing race.

I have never visited Temppeliaukio Church, so I decided to do it now when I was in Helsinki. Temppeliaukio Church is a Lutheran church in the Töölö neighbourhood of Helsinki. The church was designed by architects and brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen and opened in 1969. Built directly into solid rock, it is also known as the Church of the Rock and Rock Church

The Temppeliaukio church is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city; half a million people visit it annually. The stone-hewn church is located in the heart of Helsinki. The idiosyncratic choice of form has made it a favourite with professionals and aficionados of architecture.

When traveling back home, the train stopped in the middle in nowhere in Kerava. Soon a train conductor let us know that there has been an accident and the train will stand there an hour or so. A person had committed a suicide by our train. Very tragic.

This was very sad day to all Finns. The first a terrorist act was made today in Finland, in Turku. Two people were killed and eight injured. No words.
