Saturday Self-portrait
I’ve had an idea for a while to do a self portrait of my hands and feet. I’m guessing I’m not the only one that thinks their toes and feet aren’t worthy of a close up photo and for some reason it made me feel exposed. Look beyond the manicured nails and tattoos as my intention was to move past the visual image of feet and hands and delve a little deeper.
As I thought about these appendages, I was reminded of how hands have the ability to hurt and heal, nourish and withhold, create beauty and even destroy it. Hands are powerful weapons and to me, they are meant to be gatherers and protectors.
Feet can either propel us forward, make us halt in our steps, or take us backwards. I believe that fear is often what keeps us ‘stuck in the mud’ or we can allow our feet take us on new adventures. I’m rather fond of seeking new adventures. Big and small. (They are what moved my feet to jump out of an airplane 2 summers ago at 9000 feet landing me safely on the ground.)
Sometimes our feet move faster than our minds. They are the instigators, the work horses and the ones that get ‘er done.
They are a gift to me, my feet and hands, and I’m grateful to them for supporting me thus far.
