Rest day!
We decided that we should have a rest day after yesterday’s exertions on Meall Dearg. The only hill that B hadn’t done near Aultbea was the Marilyn of Beinn a'Mhuinidh, near Kinlochewe. We decided that the best way was to go over as many lumps and bumps that we could before going onto the hill itself. It’s a fine hill of Lewisian gneiss on top of Torridonian sandstone with great views in all directions. On top we decided it would be a great idea to walk north to Lochan Fada to make it a proper day out. The weather was good and we were lucky to see a Golden Eagle as we dodged through the rock and bogs. We had to ford the stream that drains Lochan Fada, knee deep and very refreshing, before walking back to Kinlochewe. By the time we got back we had walked 21.5 km which was much further than yesterday. The blip is the view north to Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair that we had been up 4 days previously; Meall Dearg is on the right. The extra is Slioch, as we were walking towards Lochan Fada.
Yesterday’s Blip.
