Election Campaigning
This morning the gate bell unexpectedly rang and there stood ex neighbour from our last home in Grosskitzighofen - "Sepp" (Bavarian Joseph) to us, "Bobby" to everyone else , After 22 years, we are still waiting for the answer as to why he insists on this.
As always, great to see him and have a good chat and catch up on the family news. After he was gone at just after midday the mobile pinged and the photo in the Blip appeared. A message from MrB. I recognised straight away it must be the old timer rally at nearby Eutenhausen which is where I planned to be too.
Had a quickish lunch and eventually got over to Eutenhausen and as feared the field where the event takes place was 75% empty and no sign of a Union Jack flying. The beer tent and hall were packed with visitors .
Seemingly the Brits were lacking in stamina or were ejected. I have therefore no idea who they were. Back in July 2016, I bliped a UK army jeep in Memmingen and later heard that the owners were surprisingly to me, Brexit supporters. However as far as I can see, this is a different vehicle and in fact looks as though it's actually the real thing although the grille flag is probably not "standard issue". The British Armed Forces do maintain a few "bases" in the area around Oberstdorf for alpine & skiing training but othrwise they are restricted to northern Germany - Bavaria and the south was US Army territory.
Anyway wandered around what was still there, took lots of photos and will try to upload to Flickr one day. Symbolically an extra photo with two tractors of yesterday and today.
I did catch the local conservative party "CSU" had a small stand built up, "campaigning" for the national elections in 4 weeks. Mrs Merkel's conservative "CDU" party do not stand for election in Bavaria, the "SPD" Labour party is as good as unknown outside of Munich. The rest are not worth mentioning and scratch around hoping to pick up at least 5% so as to get an MP or two in Berlin.
Thanks MrB for the photo..
