Pentlands
Today's the day ............................ to borrow
An early blip today, that really belongs to yesterday - but I think it deserves a mention in its own right.
Will had an optician's appointment in Edinburgh, so we returned home from the Trossachs via the capital. It was late afternoon before we were driving south past the Pentland Hills and the sun was shining at a low angle. The wonderful purple of the heather on the upper slopes positively glowed in contrast to the limey green below.
The Scottish poet and writer, Robert Louis Stevenson who
used the Pentland Hills in numerous poems at the beginning and end of his literally life says it much better .........................
'The hills glowed like purple amethyst;
the sky glowed topaz and vermillion colours.
I never saw a finer screen than Pentland,
considering that it is neither rocky or elevated.'
