Gathering girls

Pip, Breagh and Shaw. Shaw (red collie) is 9 years old she will be 10 in December. She is pretty much retired from sheep work now but comes out occasionally on easy gathers. I let her come on the first half of this gather and mainly she just came for the walk. She does love her sheep work. She then got a blanket on and in the straw bed in the pick up while the youngsters and I did the second half. The sheep were being very difficult today running and hiding in the tall falling over bracken and then reappearing well off course!! We were all wearing waterproofs too as it felt as though it would rain at any minute all day. Which meant we were overheating in airless bracken and trees trying to locate said hiding sheep. Having just put the last lot in the field some cyclists asked if it was the sheepdogs trials(which were held on the island today) we had to explain that no it was just us working to get sheep in off the hill!!

18c overcast but dry until 2pm then rain with heavy showers
