Powys castle
This statue is supposed to be Hercules, slaying the Hydra but it is actually how they used to trim the hedges, before power tools were invented and what a mess they made of it! I also saw a statue of a Welsh hero, with Offa inscribed on the base. I've put a bid in but have heard nothing back, yet ! Seriously, though, we had a lovely day at Powys castle, near Welshpool and the Yew hedges, or tumps, as they call them are 300 years old and are trimmed during the autumn. They are huge and must take ages to prune.
