Royal Albert Bridge
I thought I'd grab a shot of my favourite bridge today, one of Brunel's bridges this one crossing the Tamar into Cornwall from Devon. Unfortunately I'd forgotten that it's being refurbished at the moment and it's taking an age because it's a listed building and it's being reinstated to the original.
I'm sure he had all the right reasons for building it this way but it tickles me that he built a suspension bridge in reverse, you can just see the grey suspension chains in amongst the metalwork but instead of pulling he towers apart, because there was nowhere to anchor them, he used the tubular arches to push them apart. Still I prefer to think he did it just because he could.
