Skogarfoss

Day 3 and Thelma done good ( easy coastal road driving ) to Skogar waterfall and then onto Kirkjubaejarklustur where we are staying tonight. At Skogar we hiked up 60m height past the day trippers and followed the river for about 1.5 hours past many thundering smaller drop and wonderful rushing gorges then returned. ( sheep in this photo for scale of the landscape) .We were very close to Eyafjallajokull the volcano that erupted in 2010. As we drove down the coast , the scenery was bizarre: mountains and glaciers on one side, moss covered volcanic mounds on the other to the black sand at the coast. We carried on to Kirkjubaejarlustur. and did a shorter walk up another waterfall to discover a lake where legend has it nuns bathed. We then trekked down to discover the church cobblestones which are hexagonal basalt columns similar to Giant's Causeway.Hard to believe they're not man made! Another wonderful varied day.
