Walking Again

Tom has endured a tough summer. She injured her back in late June, and it's been a long haul finding out exactly what she did. After an MRI, finally ordered, we found out she has a fracture in lumbar two in her lower back. We're trying to find out the best way to go forward with treatment, but her doctor said that she recommends walking and trying to stay as active as possible. We have been walking and practicing Qi Gong, a great low impact exercise for the lower back and all over the body.

Tom has gritted her teeth through a lot of pain this summer. Last weekend, we were walking the streets of Seattle. All summer long, she has tried to emulate a normal life, but she has been in pain, and I know it's been excruciating. The Qi Gong has especially helped (something similar to Tai Chi), but we think it's going to be kind of a long haul, some months through this fall. But we will keep on walking and Qi Gong-ing and actively healing.

Being injured sucks, but here we are walking our field in the morning, our shadows cast across this dry land.

It's all part of the experience, we know, but we'll get Tom healthy again.
