Castle Ring

A brief wander round the edge of the Iron Age Fort that is the highest point of Cannock Chase.

As the sun went behind clouds and then reappeared, the light changed.

I've never been up here in late August before. The bracken was so high and overgrown but there are parts of the inner part where the vegetation is very different. There isn't a lot to give a clue to what life was like before it was abandoned in 50 A.D. But it does have an interesting feeling about it, and there are many stories about the ring being haunted.

There is a new sign there which gives more of the history of the site. I've included it as an extra. If you do enlarge it, it should still be readable.
