Dragonflies and ice cream
For the second day in a row I was regretting not taking Superzoom with me. We had lunch at a friend's place starting off outside on their terrace surrounded by flowers and butterflies and the forest. It was hot and humid and thunderstorms were predicted. Our BBQ lunch was delicious then our hostess opened a bottle of wine from the border of France and Germany. It was a Grauer Burgunder (Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio) with much more depth of flavour compared to the Australian ones. The clouds gathered and we huddled under the sun umbrella as a rain shower passed over. It was still hot and the sun came out again but a few minutes later the thunderstorm struck. After resettling inside the Winter Garden (conservatory) we had dessert of home made ice cream while watching the wind, the rain, the hail, the lightning. We had squall after squall with moments of calm in between all afternoon. Nothing to do except enjoy the next wine, an Austrian Blaufränkisch Rose. Blaufränkisch is a late picked spicy dark skinned variety. The colour was much deeper than the usual Rose and very characteristic of the BF red variety.
On the wall we spotted the biggest dragonfly I have ever seen. It must have been at least 10cm long. It stayed there for a while until it slid down the wall and flew to the window. I was able to get several photos and managed to get in really close with my iPhone. The quality is quite surprising. The extra shows it in its entirety. Hubby managed to get hold of it without damaging anything then let it outside.
The second extra shows the hail bouncing off a glass roof. We headed off home when the storm(s) finally abated about 6pm.
