Aussie Grit

Mark Webber, ex f1 and WEC driver (2nd place in Le Mans which is of course the best race) and general top geezer.

A very early start for Alf and I as we wanted to beat the traffic into the circuit. So by 8:30 we were sitting just ahead of the finish line eating breakfast waiting for the first race to begin.

The support races were all good with plenty to keep us busy until the main event.

The start was amazing and although the race was not the most exciting for overtakes or massive crashes it was so every close with never more than a couple of seconds between the top two and plenty of action up and down the rest of the field.

Obviously we were gutted for Max (as were most of the supposed 80,000 dutch spectators) and Alonso.

As soon at was finished we legged it back through the paddock, hopped on a VIP shuttle back to the media car park to get a head start on the legendary Spa traffic. It was still terrible and was a couple of hours before we could really get going. Which we did.

Just as we came into Calais we were overtaken by a flying Aston Martin DB11, which turned out to be none other than Ex driver, great commentator and probable National Treasure Martin Brundle. We caught up with him at the Flexiplus lounge and had a very brief chat (which went better than my last chat with Martin Brundle but that's another story). Before he went to catch his train and Alf and I went to eat all of the free food we could (we were starving by this point).

Having flexiplus means you get on the next train which is great but I did feel slightly guilty driving to the front of the queue. There were some bikers up there who recognised our car from the race so we had a chat about the event. They'd been camping which is not something I'm sure I'd want to do there, but they'd really enjoyed it. I told them to go to lemans next year ;)

So that was our Spa adventure. I think Alf was amazed at the amount of stuff that goes on behind the scenes to put on the event and he may even have been slightly proud when he saw our systems being used in real life at a race.

I didn't take that many pictures but those that made it though QA are here if anyone is interested.
