Bumper Crop
Mid afternoon we managed a short walk across the beautiful Whitefield Moor west of Brockenhurst.
Some years oak trees have very few acorns. But this year the trees across the New Forest seem fully loaded, it's going to be a bumper crop.
Which could be a problem for the ponies, as they are sensitive to the toxins in acorns, although apparently less sensitive than cattle. As both ponies and cattle wander freely across the heaths of much of the Forest, this is a real issue. The solution seems to be to release pigs, which is what will be happening soon we have been told.
