THAT TIME OF THE YEAR

Yesterday's heavy rain has left me with one or two jobs that need seeing too so no going out. Except for the daily walk to paper shop. Our lane is carpeted with green leaves and small twiglets brought down a little early by yesterday's strong winds and heavy rain. But my neighbour's fungi have appeared almost overnight. They come up every year just in a small area by his gate and then disappear just as quickly.
And by coincidence for crossword fans from today's Times Xword 2dn:
"Kingdom's motor-racing disrupted by gun going off".
I've put in "fungi" but perhaps I'm sticking my neck out.
