There's an area of town, east of downtown, where there are usually lots of birds, even an Audubon Center, but with all the rain we've had recently, I went mainly to see the water. The Celery Fields used to be fields where celery was grown, but now it is owned by the county and is part of the storm water drainage system. Usually at this time of year, the ponds are relatively full, what with the normal summer rains. But with the inches and inches of rain we had over the weekend, all the ponds are brimming with water. I've never seen the area so covered with water! There were very few birds I could see, but this one landed on the rail as I was walking back to my car. A limpkin, I believe. He sat there and allowed me to take probably 20 photos. Very patient and not at all spooked by people, as long as I kept my distance.
Anyway, a nice change from all the dreary weather we've had.
