North Rim of the Grand Canyon

Today we took a jeep tour out to Toroweap, on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was a two hour trip on unpaved road and the last mile or so was proper 'off road' territory.

Toroweap is pretty deserted, so we had the place to ourselves. The Grand Canyon is impressive in terms of size and scale, but I was most struck by the high desert vegetation and the (relative!) silence. You could hear the rapids several thousand feet below.

My blip shows the view to the east (I think) and I did get down on my tummy to get this shot. Technophobe has evidence of this, apparently. The extras show John doing one of his trademark jumps and a 'Chevrolet fleetmaster' which we spotted back in Kanab.
