Colors United
Finishing up the month with a (high) touch of colors from an exhibit at the Portrait Gallery in D.C. It's good for the soul.
I'm puzzled by the Harvey storm phenom. From a meteorological point of view for sure (although we all know that climate change is a hoax, right?). But also from a preparedness point of view. This storm was long in the making and the forecasts on its devastation pretty accurate. Why then, did so many people seemingly get caught unprepared, having to leave their homes with just the clothes on their backs? Why are so many first responders put at risk by those who chose to "stay put"? This isn't some impoverished corner of the world where infrastructure and the means to put yourself in safety are lacking (by the way, there is an even bigger flooding disaster happening in Asia right now, which hasn't gotten any attention here...)
From a political point of view, I also find it interesting that in that bastion of Trumpland that is Texas, all of a sudden the intervention of 'big government' is ok, including bailout packages which Texas voted against when New Jersey requested them after their hurricane a few years back.
Don't get me wrong: I feel for those who've lost everything (and yes, I've already donated), but man, how many times does this have to happen before we come to our senses? before we start thinking that "we're all in this together"? that this isn't a zero-sum game?
ok, end of rant. thanks for indulging me...
