Black Castle - Dark Legend
Visited South Queensferry with Mrs T this afternoon, with a view to getting some kind of 'sea related' photo for my blip.
However, although I got a few suitable images, I decided to go with this shot of the 'Black Castle'.
Built in 1626 and located on the town's Main Street, it's the oldest house in South Queensferry and, according to 'Scotland.com', comes with its own dark legend.
According to the site:
"Black Castle has a skin crawling legend attached to it. A sea captain, who built the house in 1626, was the original owner of the house. It is said that after the captain was lost at sea, it was discovered that he had perished in the ocean because his housekeeper had asked a beggar to cast a spell on the sea-farer. As the punishment for witchcraft was death, both women were burnt at the stake."
Black Castle is not the oldest building in the town. This distinction goes to St. Mary's Church, built in 1441.
The town is steeped in history and I think I'll head back again soon for more 'blip' material.
