Wild Turkeys
They like to hang out in the no man's land underneath the bird feeder.Today these three and about five of their friends were roaming round in the gulley scratching for grubs and whatever else it is they eat buried amongst the sunflower seed shells and other bird feeder detritus. We moved the bird feeder to its current location because quite a mess is created underneath and it is quite invisible from almost everywhere. This did, however, make it difficult to photograph them. They're not terribly concerned by my presence, but do tend to manage to keep a stand of arbutulon and other shrubs between themselves and me.
Circling around he shrubs is not something I really feel like doing when the thermometer is topping 106 degrees.
That didn't seem to bother the turkeys either as they wandered around scratching and conversing with one another. They do make the most eerie sounding gobble ,but mostly they just murmur and make clicking sounds. I haven't seen them do it yet, but they must fly over the deer fence as most of them were inside it today.
It's supposed to be hotter tomorrow. It hardly seems possible. Today it seemed as if the world would spontaneously combust if it weren't for the high humidity and low visibility.
