Octopus stinkhorn

AKA Devil's fingers Clathrus archeri, a species of fungus native to Australia and New Zealand and introduced to Europe around 100 years ago.  It is related to the Common and Dog stink horn, and reproduces in the same way by producing a sticky black slime containing the spores on the long red 'tentacles' that smells VERY strongly of rotting flesh to attract flies, thus spreading the spores. 
It is a rare find in the UK and I am lucky there is a good colony of them about 15 miles from where I live.
I feel very lucky as it's a fungus I have been wanting to see for a while now, although to be fair I did smell it quite a while before I saw it!!!
