Santa Rosa Creek
We were up and out in the garden by 7:30 this morning. The intensity of the sun is turning the beans tough and fibrous and cracking all the tomatoes. We're having the last of the beans and the tomatoes in a salade Niçoise tonight.
The Sauvignon blanc and Pinot noir grapes, the majority of the grapes planted near us, are being harvested at night to save the workers from picking in 110F (44C) sun. They have to pull the grapes just when they reach the right Brix (sugar) level and before they begin to raisin..
By 9am it was 90 degrees, so we took Ozzie across the street to play in the creek and cool off. It's tough having to wear a fur coat in this kind of weather.... it was relatively cool by the creek, but the bugs, especially the mosquitoes were fierce!
Now at 4:30 it looks like there is a breath of air stirring, although walking out the door still feels like stepping into a blast furnace. My thoughts are with my friend Tobi and her husband who have been planning their son's wedding in their garden for over a year!
