Absent in her presence

Tonight was tough 

Every week I try to take June out for a meal & chat
Chat is an open term - she has lost most of the motor skills in her hands, her speech is slurred and her memory comes and goes.
As usual I cut up her meal (steak, eggs & chips) and left her to eat what she could while I ate mine.  Then I helped her finish.

This is the normal pattern - what was tough tonight was that several times she asked me "what is wrong with me" and worse "why is it happening so quickly".

Two years ago we were doing a la carte in proper restaurants - now Wetherspoons is a struggle
