Late starter

I decided to visit Stevenage parkrun today. It's less than a 20 minute drive away and I'd heard it's a lovely course (it is, I discovered). Unfortunately there'd been a crash on the A1 and all northbound traffic diverted to narrow local roads. Consequently I arrived at the car park just in time to see the runners set off across the other side of the lake (see photo, taken by a Stevenage volunteer). After a moment's hesitation I decided to run around to the start and make a late start, approximately 5 minutes after the rest of the field. Although, eager to make up lost ground, I set off much too quickly and was shortly gasping, I eventually settled down and quite enjoyed catching up and overtaking some of the runners towards the back of the field. I even managed a respectable finishing time - on my watch that is, five minutes longer is what you'd see if you ever look at my official time on the website.
