An eye on nature...

They don't know that the lagoon is polluted...

It's really sad that this lagoon is very polluted and there are dead and dying fish and eels all around. One reason is that the sea fish can get swept over that narrow spit of sand into the lagoon, then when the tide goes out they can't get back into the sea.
We came across a guy with a large fishing net who goes up and down the side of the lagoon catching the trapped fish and transferring them back into the sea.
But the other thing is, further up the lagoon, there is industrial waste filtering in as well. A few days ago a notice was put up warning about the algae bloom pollution.
We've met a lot of people who are getting angry that nothing is being done to sort out the situation.
Many people want to walk their dogs here but now have to be careful and stop them going in the water. It is difficult for them as dogs are only allowed off the leash in a few designated areas.
Also, it is such a shame that this lagoon all looks so beautiful, but as you walk alongside it stinks!
I watched a pelican swallowing one of the fish, and wondered whether he would be poisoned by it... If you go large you can read the notice.
