The Devils Strike Back
WOW! What a night! And as Max Boyce once said, I was there!
Two weeks ago we played our first Champions League hockey game against Davos, and got tuned 10-1. After losing on Thursday again, and having conceded over 20 goals during our first three games the hopes for tonight’s return match against Davos weren’t particularly high. I jokingly tweeted the Cardiff Devils Twitter feed with this message “Game 2 of @championshockey in the diff. If game 1 was A New Hope, game 2 has to be The Devils Strike Back.” I was right!
Things didn’t start all that well and we’d conceded a goal with only 3 minutes gone, but we slowly worked our way back into the game and took the lead 2-1. But a couple of penalties and all of a sudden it was 3-2 to them again. But we never gave up and kept the pressure on, equalising and then almost scoring a goal on the final buzzer only for it to be disallowed. We didn’t have long to wait though, within seconds of overtime starting our defenceman Drew Paris hit a one timer and scored. They’d best check the structural integrity of Ice Arena Wales as the roof nearly came off with the roar from the crowd.
What a win! What a team!
