After the rain
North Uist’s secret is its coastline – vast stretches of pale sandy beaches interspersed with rocky inlets. The number of birds that inhabit this watery environment is astonishing. It is for a good reason that the RSPB have sited its Balranald Reserve here. Here there are tracks that skirt the shore and the dunes and take you to wonderful sandy bays.
Today started with rain, but within a few minutes in the morning the rain stopped, the sky cleared, the sun shone and we saw the sea from the house for the first time. We could have gone down to ‘our’ bay, but decided to make the short journey to the Reserve. A wonderful few hours were then spent wandering the coast and sitting on the beach in the sunshine watching the birds. We met three other people.
