An incredible honour today to attend the official opening of the new Queensferry Crossing by HM the Queen and the FM Nicola Sturgeon.
We were sat in a grandstand at the Fife end, so able to watch the cutting the ribbon ceremony on the bridge on the giant screens, before the Royal party and VIPs joined us for speeches and performances.
It was wonderful to be surrounded by so many guests who were part of building the bridge, their families and local community members. And the performances - a specially commissioned poem by the Scots Makar Jackie Kay, Karine Polwart, KT Tunstall, King Creosote and local pipe bands plus others - were simply wonderful.
The heavens opened and its fair to say we all ended up drookit! But it was such a fun day and such a privilege to be up close to a real moment in history so spirits stayed high! I also had one of our young Modern Apprentices with me as my guest and it was fantastic to see it through his eyes too!
Special mention to Lothian Buses for such a slick operation getting us all there and back.
