Playground tactics

I went into Paphos today, as I had left my phone charger at the hotel we stayed in last weekend, and they had sent it to the courier's for me (the courier won't come to where I live, that would be too convenient). Whenever I go to this couriers there is always a group of men playing backgammon under the tree in the park over the road. I often wonder who they are, why aren't they working, or at least doing something useful, and why aren't they playing backgammon somewhere more comfortable (I am guessing they all have houses)? But who am I to question a middle-aged mediterranean man's backgammon playing behaviour?

I wonder if they'd ever let me play though?
