No Parkin
It's a shame with Bonfire Night just around the corner that this dead pub seems to be declaring against the sweet gingery oaty treacle cake much loved in England at Autumn time.
OK. Poor joke, based on the hand-made sign trying to stop users of the playing fields parking in the old pub car park.
But, it's a shame about pubs closing, the local community is poorer without a local. The traveller is poorer for the loss of a friendly hearth on a winter's night still miles from home. These are places of conversation, banter and innuendo. Meeting places for business, pleasure and assignation. Playing places for darts and dominoes, or even cribbage.
Are they victims of the cheap booze at home culture? Is it the general lack of money in the system in these austere times? Surely people haven't stopped drinking? We read about our awful alcohol habit all the time in all kinds of media.
Anyway, don't forget to have some parkin this Autumn, preferably at your local pub.
Happy Thursdays Blipmeisters!
