Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2017 Sunday -- A Fun Historical Place

We had gone to Lowe's, then Home Depot, and finally Best Buy to look for kitchen appliances -- we are re-furburishing a home that we lived in for 28 years, from summer of '66 to summer of '94. Then the house became a rental when it did not sell. The most recent tenant lived there for 15 years when  in April we gave the 60-day notice and asked to have the place back. We are planning to move there when our big house sells (and selling that has been a less than fun story).

So today we are looking at kitchen appliances. The kitchen has never had a dishwasher and a stove is needed. Because our current refrigerator is about 14 years old, I figure that we'll also be in the market for one.

There are so many brands and so many options with each brand, that selecting appliances is confusing. We learned that two years ago when we purchased the appliances for our retirement home in Cayucos on California's Central Coast.

When we finished looking at appliances and were still undecided about what we would purchase, actually we decided that we'd find a used appliance store and do some looking there. Honestly, we don't need the top of the line appliances. If I had a money tree (if you know where one is, let me know), then I'd buy all brand new, all matching, and a top brand, but this smaller home in SoCal does not need the finesse that we put into our coast home.

The best thing about this former home of ours, then rental, and soon to be our residence again, is it is under Prop.13, which causes it to have very low property taxes. The mortgage is paid off and the utilities are very low.

So we exited Best Buy, and decided to stop at the winery, where we have a "club membership," to see if the latest club selection was ready for pick-up. The moments in the tasting room were a lovely side-step from life's responsibilities, a fun 90-minutes of irresponsibility, and we enjoyed ourselves completely. We purchased our club package and several other bottles and then headed to the car. I looked at Mr. Fun and asked if he was okay to drive, I knew that I was not, and he admitted that he possibly was not. We both were a little tipsy. So he headed back inside the tasting room to purchase some snacks. So we spent the next 45 minutes or so sitting in the cool air-conditioning of our car enjoying some delicious crackers and cheese; for a vegan, cheese is a no-no. We are not vegans by choice, but by doctor's orders, so we occasionally break the rules. We almost never eat cheese; the packet of cheese slices he had purchased we more than delicious and we devoured our snack. Honestly, that moment is now a memory that I think we enjoy chatting about for a long time. Pretty stupid the experiences that swell into tidbits of remember fun.

And that was our first Sunday in September!
