Collective Cover Project
"Collective Cover Project" is a long term project initiated in January of 2009 and completed in 2012. Fiber-based items inducted into the Collective Cover Project have been randomly found along roadways or in the environment by the artist and generous colleagues - culminating in a collection of objects that have been numbered, photographed, and for whom a "Constructed Archive" has been created with current events from the day they were found. Members are then fitted with a woven QR code that connects them in cyberspace with their constructed history. www.collectivecover.com
That's right more Art Prize. I spent three days this week at Art Prize and walked 9 miles in three days. It was another wonderful day to be out and about in Downtown Grand Rapids.
The day started the same way it ended and that was with a great view out the 18th floor window looking out over the Grand River. Not long after I had woken up the little cousins popped out of bed and came to see what time it was so we hung out on the bed for a bit. After we got the little ones off to school my cousin and I hopped on a Rapidbus (City Bus) and took it out by the mall and back. It was nice to see some of the town that I wouldn't have seen with out getting in the car or on the bus. After a nice almost 2hr ride to the mall and back we got off and walked to a few of the Art Prize venues that we had missed or just didn't have time to get to.
Collective Cover Project was in the UICA building at 2 West Fulton. It was interesting to scan the items and see where they had come from and the condition that they are in.
After looking at more Art Prize we decided to walk back and get the van and drive down to the little dive bar called Kale's Korner where we had a burger and an Adult drink. It was nice to spend $5.25 for an Adult drink and a burger. After that it was off to get the littles from school and then to see one last Art Prize venue before I ate dinner and went home for a few days.
I will be making my last Art Prize visit on Sunday with friends to see some of the things that I missed or didn't make it to.
Weather:
about 65 degrees and sunny. Another wonderful day to be out at Art Prize.
