Luoyang

Early start and train to Luoyang....the sun shone and we first visited the Longman Caves. Longman means Dragon's Gate. The cliffs either side of the Li form a gate.
From 400AD more than1300 caves were built into the cliffs, as well as 2'q00 niches and nearly 100,000 statues. They vary in size from 17m to 2cm. Some were paid for by the Emperor, some by public funds. After lunch we went the the White Horse Temple, China's first Buddhist monastery dating from th first century.
