A lot of water
There’s a lot of water on North Uist, in fact there are apparently over 120 lochs, lochans and inlets from the sea, making up a third of the island. The one main road (mostly single track with passing places) circles the island and crosses much of the water with causeways. It’s not unusual to suddenly realise that you have water on each side of the narrow road you are driving along.
And it has been a wet day, with swathes of cloud coming over, bringing sometimes quite heavy showers. And then they move over and everything clears again. Good to watch from the window. We did venture out at various points and this is a picture taken from St Kilda Viewpoint, illustrating the watery landscape and the mist over the hills of South Uist.
