Highly Unsprung

10K, makers and table tennis

10k done! Aye, that would be right. More like marshal duties, which apart from my worries at never having done that before, turned out to be pretty good. All that watching out for cars and poorly folk and cheering on the runners, secretly scoffing chocolate, fresh air and sunshine was pretty enjoyable, even momentarily sitting on a nettle patch didn't ruin my day, although my bahookie got a bit of a shock. I knowingly volunteered for the marshal point where two massive alsations lived, so I could go try to cuddle them like a lunatic dog stalker in the lull between the runners coming and going. Talking of the runners, they were a sight to behold, full respect to them. On the outer leg, they were all still tightly bunched, fresh out of the starting box, passing in a couple of minutes, even making jokes. On the return they were in wee groups or running themselves, totally focussed on the steps ahead soundtracked by their favourite tunes blasting down their earphones. The course had been scenic but with bloody tough hills including one at the end where I was standing and it was a hot, hot, hot day. They were having to dig deep towards the end....as was i...for the chocolate in my bag...but also for some Rocky type motivational phrases. I went full cheese, " you're on the home stretch!", "you've smashed this hill!", "you've got this race in the bag!". But it was all true, pretty awesome achievement for them all, especially for those running for the first time.

Tess and her pal Hazel were marshalling much further along but seemed to take it in their stride. Great event, hat's off to the organisers and runners.

And in the afternoon a trip out to NEOS to see Dave and the Meldrum Makers at the distillery where most of my family seemed to turn up all at the same time, time for a picture..all except Granda as my Dad is currently far away, playing table tennis for Scotland at the annual international and by all accounts - he won every one of his matches on Friday - things are going very well.
