Life Goes On...

We went over to the salt marsh and the beach this afternoon to see how things were going.

It was quite windy out there with some strong gusts and the sand on the beach was blowing around significantly.

These windy conditions are due to hurricane Irma and shows how huge this storm  really is.
It's hundreds of miles away but still giving us a taste of what it can do.

Tomorrow (Monday) looks like the day we will get the worst conditions in our area. Naturally and thankfully, nowhere near what we originally feared, but we will be getting rain, strong at times, and wind with gusts capable of doing some damage.   

Hoping that big pine behind us won't come down.

But for the area wildlife, life goes on as it has to.
They still have to feed and fish if they wish to live. I saw Ospreys, herons, egrets, anhingas, cormorants, and even two pink spoonies farther out in the marsh. Also saw two alligators napping way out in the marsh pond area. Hey! Wake up guys, we got some heavy stuff coming in. But they don't care.
There was actually more flying going on than I would have expected. It has to be super difficult to fly against the wind, but again they have no choice. If you need to get to the other side, you have to battle the winds same as everybody else.

This egret shown feeding here seems to know he had better bulk up while the fishing is good.
It should be all nice again by Wed. but they don't know that.

So as before, we are thankful we will not be getting the hard fury that was expected earlier in the week, but out best thoughts go out to all affected by this devastating storm.
